Types of Enzymes Needed for Digestion

When looking at digestive enzymes there are several different types of enzymes that you need to consider. Because of the various stages in the digestive process as well as different food groups, no one enzyme is capable of doing the complete job.

You Need Them All

The fact is a full spectrum of enzymes is required to completely break down all types of foods through all stages of the process.

This means that digestive enzymes supplements should not only include the major enzymes such as:

  • protease for protean,
  • amylase for sugar and starches,
  • lipase for fats and oils, and
  • cellulase for cellulose fiber

but also your formula should include digestive enzymes that will continue working through subsequent stages. These enzymes include:

  • peptidase,
  • lactase,
  • glucoamylase and
  • malt diastase
