Lipase Digests Fat

Lipase is the enzyme we all want to know about because it’s the enzyme that burns fat.

More specifically, its function is to break fat down into fatty acids so that your body can utilize it for energy, a very desirable quality in an enzyme.

Unfortunately your diet often doesn’t contain it in sufficient amounts.

The good news is your body can secrete it from your pancreas but the bad news is this ability has been greatly reduced as a result of our excessive fat and sugar consumption.

Fats don't Mix Well

Fats need a special digestive action to be completed before absorption because they must be carried in a water medium (blood & lymph) and, as you know, fats are not soluble (they do not mix well with liquids).

This enzyme is the digesting agent that splits fat into fatty acids and glycerol resulting in:

  • reduced cholesterol and triglycerides
  • a possible reduction in the size of gallstones
  • weight loss, and
  • an increase in the ability for nutrients to enter your cells and wastes to exit

What to Look For

If you have a deficiency in this enzyme you may experience muscle spasms across your upper shoulders and neck. For additional information on this deficiency please visit my page called Fats Intolerance.
